Psychological Effects of Living in A High Crime Area

Is there any research done on the psychological effects that high crime areas have on its residents? In addition to the study itself does it give examples why there is such high crime? (i.e. Poor or corrupt law enforcement, fear among residents to report crime, lack of trust in local law enforcement, etc.)
