Job Title

Professor of Forensic Clinical Psychology

Employer

South Essex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust

Location

Wickford, England (UK)

Salary

£63,833 - £79,031

Closing Date

15th January 2010

Job Description

Two great organisations have come together to offer an outstanding opportunity in Cambridge and Essex. South Essex Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (SEPT) is one of the top Mental Health Trusts in the UK, with the quality of its services achieving the highest possible rating. SEPT is the only Mental Health Trust that has attained university status and is financially very secure. It is expanding its forensic services and is about to open a new 97 bedded Unit in Essex. The beds are divided across seven wards including: male medium secure, female medium secure and low secure services. We have a state-of-the-art therapies department, gymnasium and pre-discharge ward, supported by a comprehensive psychology, sports, vocational and occupational therapy team.

Anglia Ruskin University’s Department of Psychology, based in Cambridge, was the UK’s top-rated psychology department in a post-1992 university for the quality of its research in the recent Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). Research in the department is supported by an impressive range of world-class research laboratories. Anglia Ruskin University and SEPT have a number of joint appointments, including a Professor of Mental Health. The Professor of Forensic Clinical Psychology will help to establish further collaborative ventures between the two organisations on forensic services.

The job will provide a blend of both clinical leadership in SEPT and academic work at Anglia Ruskin University. The proportion of clinical to academic work is negotiable. The academic work will include both research and teaching.

This is a new post that will help to set the direction for service improvement both in SEPT and further afield as well as contribute to the strong research profile of Anglia Ruskin University’s psychology department. The applicant is likely to be a Clinical Psychologist with considerable experience in forensic services or perhaps qualified in both clinical psychology and forensic psychology but a dual qualification is not essential. Forensic Psychologists with considerable clinical experience will also be considered.
